Caterpillar Inc. (CAT) has agreed to acquire Australian mining software firm RPMGlobal (AU:RUL) for AU$1.12 billion ($728 million) in equity, marking a 32.6% premium over RUL's last closing price. The deal accelerates CAT's push into digital mining solutions, combining its industrial scale with RPMGlobal's fleet management and autonomous operations software.
RPMGlobal shares ROSE 2.53% on the announcement as investors welcomed the strategic fit. The acquisition positions Caterpillar to dominate the convergence of heavy machinery and mining optimization algorithms—a sector increasingly influenced by blockchain-based asset tracking and IoT integration.
